City Reschedules Storm Debris Volunteer Day to July 24;- Debris Removal Dates Change

City Reschedules Storm Debris Volunteer Day to July 24
Public Works debris removal dates change to August/September
The City of Springfield has rescheduled its community-wide Clean Green SGF Storm Debris Volunteer Day to Thursday, July 24. The July 17 effort was cancelled out of an abundance of caution for the safety of volunteers, as severe weather was forecast.
The workday is organized to assist residents who are physically unable to move storm debris to the curb. The Volunteer Work Day is separate from the Public Works debris pickup schedule.
Volunteer Day – Now July 24
• The workday’s purpose remains the same: to assist residents who are physically unable to move vegetative debris to the curb.
• Those already signed up to receive assistance will remain on the list. The deadline to request this particular assistance has passed.
• Volunteers previously registered will receive a confirmation email to check availability for the new date.
• Volunteer sign-ups remain open to groups and individuals at www.CleanGreenSGF.com.
Updated Public Works Debris Pickup Schedule
Due to the postponement, Public Works neighborhood debris sweeps (debris removal) will also shift to begin after the volunteer event:
• Zone 1: August 11–15
• Zone 3: August 18–22
• Zone 2: August 25–29
• Zone 4: September 1–5
Residents do not need to register for these sweeps/debris pickups. They are simply asked to make sure organic debris only is moved to the curbside (without blocking sidewalks or driveways) prior to their City Council Zone’s scheduled dates.
To find which City Council Zone you live in, visit https://cosmo.maps.arcgis.com/apps/InformationLookup/index.html?appid=5723eb98cc0c4e9da2b29c90a91d0233.
Important Notes for Residents wanting Debris Removed in August and September:
• Only natural/organic vegetative debris will be collected (limbs, branches, brush).
• No registration is needed for pickup.
• Debris should be placed at the curb or nearest accessible location, without blocking sidewalks or driveways.
• Debris must be ready by 7 a.m. on the first day of your City Council Zone’s scheduled pickup week.
This effort is part of the City’s ongoing response to the April 29 and June 19 storms, which caused widespread tree damage and infrastructure impacts across Springfield.

Join the Neighborhood Clean-Up and Make a Difference!
This is your chance to declutter your home and yard, dispose of unwanted items, and work together to beautify our community. Whether it's tree limbs, bags of leaves, or that pile of "stuff" that's been collecting dust in your garage, now is the perfect time to clear it out—completely free of charge!
A Community Effort for a Cleaner Future
This event is made possible by the City of Springfield and organized through the Community Partnership of the Ozarks. This year, we’re teaming up with the Meador Park Neighborhood to make an even bigger impact.
But here’s the deal: We Need Your Help!
Why Volunteers Are Essential
A successful clean-up doesn’t happen without people willing to lend a hand. We need volunteers to:
✅ Direct traffic and keep things running smoothly
✅ Answer questions and help record attendance
✅ Assist with unloading (lots of lifting involved!)
✅ Connect with neighbors and strengthen our community
This is more than just a clean-up—it’s a chance to meet new neighbors, plan future events, and help secure future city-sponsored opportunities for our neighborhood.
What Happens If We Don’t Get Enough Volunteers?
Without enough helping hands, we risk losing the opportunity to host future clean-ups—and we could even become ineligible for other city-sponsored events and funding that improve our neighborhood.
How You Can Help
If you can commit a few hours, please let us know:
✅ What time you’re available
✅ What tasks you’re willing to help with
Every volunteer makes a difference! Drop us a message or reach out today to get involved. You can use the Contact Us form on the website or email SeminoleHolland@gmail.com. Together, we can make our neighborhood a cleaner, better place to live!

Open house for McDaniel Park pump track plans Thursday, Jan. 16
The Springfield-Greene County Park Board hosts an open house for planned improvements at McDaniel Park Thursday, Jan. 16, 4-6 p.m., at Messiah Lutheran Church, 925 E. Seminole St., Springfield.
The Park Board is partnering with local nonprofit Trailspring to design and build a pump track in the park, in the open space just north of the park’s existing parking lot and trailhead for the South Creek Greenway. Trailspring is the founder of Two Rivers Bike Park in Christian County and developer of the Dirt 66 Trails at Fellow’s Lake, north of Springfield.
A pump track is a paved circular loop of rollers and berms, requiring minimal pedaling or pushing, designed for bicycles, roller skates, scooters, skateboards, etc. Riders create momentum with body movements to propel themselves along the track. Pump tracks may be enjoyed by beginner cyclists, kids, families and more experienced riders, to strengthen skills while having fun.
McDaniel Park’s playground, trailhead and current parking lot will remain in place.
Trailspring has acquired pledges totaling $555,000 to fund design and construction of the pump track. Trailspring presented the proposal to the Park Board in October 2024, and the board unanimously accepted the proposal and funding donation during its Jan. 10 meeting.
The Park Board will work with Trailspring on design and engineering. Construction is expected to begin by the end of the year, with opening anticipated by summer of 2026.
Trailspring Executive Director Alaina Grote said her organization strives to strengthen the relationship between individuals and the outdoors through versatile and inclusive projects.
“Communities thrive when their residents and visitors have access to outdoor recreation,” said Grote. “We wanted to bring an outdoor space to a more urban location in an effort to remove some of the barriers that prevent people from exploring outside, such as transportation and equipment costs. A pump track is low maintenance, multi-generational and beginner-friendly, making it the perfect addition to our growing community.
A pump track has been envisioned for the McDaniel Park and the adjacent George Moore Park since a 2014 master plan, but the project has been on hold for many years due to a lack of funding. The current plan places the pump track fully within McDaniel Park, with no development of George Moore Park.
McDaniel Park, near the center of Springfield at South National Avenue and East Sunset Street, is an important nexus for cycling and recreational trail use.
The park’s South Creek Greenway trailhead is the kick off for six miles of greenway trail, connecting McDaniel Park to The Link, an eight-mile north-south on-street bike route, near Holland Avenue and Sunset.
From there the South Creek Greenway continues westward beneath Campbell Avenue, over Kansas Expressway, through Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park, and connecting to Carver Middle School. Near West Battlefield Road and West Bypass/160, the greenway transitions to a half-mile on-street bike route before connecting to the five-mile Wilson’s Creek Greenway at Tal’s Trailhead, west of Springfield city limits.
This fall, construction is scheduled to begin on an eastward expansion of the South Creek Greenway along Sunset Street, connecting McDaniel Park to Meador Park and Glenstone Avenue. This new segment greenway segment is scheduled for completion in early 2026.
“We’re grateful for the support from Trailspring, the Park Board and other supporters of this project to bring a new recreation attraction to Springfield,” said Ron Schneider, Director of Parks. “McDaniel Park is centrally-located along trails and bike routes, and it’s ideal for development of this amenity. A pump track provides a fun place to skate, ride or glide, that can be enjoyed by users of all ages and skill levels.”
The pump track proposal has been endorsed through letters of support from Springfield Youth Cycling Club and the Seminole Holland Neighborhood Association.
