Missouri Good Neighbor Week Sept 28 to Oct 4

There is a week-long celebration of neighbors starting on Sept. 28 (National Good Neighbor Day). This will be the fourth year for a National Good Neighbor Day program but this year, thanks to a recently passed bill in the Missouri legislature, we will be celebrating Missouri Good Neighbor Week Sept. 28 to Oct. 4. You can:

  • help spread the word about Missouri Good Neighbor Week in your community;
  • help judge great neighboring submissions and good neighbor nominations in their county (made via the MU Extension website and sent to them for review);
  • secure a sponsor or two that would fund small local awards (extension councils should be your first request); and
  • present awards to the winners (and document those winners with photos).

Sunshine and Jefferson Zoning Change Update

Some residents have received notice of a meeting in the vacant lot on the corner of Sunshine & Jefferson. The developers are attempting to put in a coffee shop once again with drive through windows. As you may know, 7-Brew was not successful in getting the OK from Planning & Zoning and City Council to have a 3-lane drive through. This appears to be a second attempt. We don't know if it's the same folks. Please try to attend the meeting on September 15, 4-6:30pm at the vacant lot on the corner of Sunshine/Jefferson.

Becoming a Registered Neighborhood Association

 Two things are required by the city for our Association to be formally recognized and registered:

  1. Approved bylaws
  2. Elected officers

The organizing committee has been drafting bylaws – we are currently at formal revision 6. But we need five members to step up to serve on the Board of Directors. Are you a willing member?

In the initial election of the Board of Directors, three members shall be elected for one-year terms and two members shall be elected for two-year terms. The two members receiving the most votes will be designated as being elected for two-year terms. In all subsequent elections, the terms of office for the Board of Directors members shall be for a period of two years. Each term of office shall be January 1 to December 31.

If you aren’t interested in becoming a member of the Board of Directors, how can you help? Do you know some neighbors who might become members? Becoming a member is inexpensive and easy. You can join online or find the mail-in form on our website www.SeminoleHolland.com.

For more information, email SeminoleHolland@gmail.com or use the contact form on our website.

Have you heard what's coming?

On Saturday, September 10, 9 am - noon, Messiah Lutheran Church will sponsor a free Seminole Holland neighborhood cleanup. Bring your lawn trimmings (leaves, grass, limbs). They will have dumpsters available for trash also. They expect to provide containers for your documents that need shredding. Messiah Lutheran Church is located at 925 East Seminole. Call the church if you have questions at 417.881.2192. Be sure to thank the church for financially supporting this neighborhood project.
